Hyeonseo Lee Will Give an Encore Talk this Sunday
We knew Hyeonseo Lee’s solo talk was going to be a hot ticket, but we didn’t quite expect it to sell out within two weeks. In the weeks since, the wait list has steadily expanded, to the point where we had to do this: give her a second solo. So this Sunday, March 27 at 6 pm, Hyeonseo Lee will be giving an encore to her book talk, The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story. Tickets are now available both online and at The Bookworm.
Those who wish to switch their Saturday ticket for Sunday may do so by emailing [email protected] or visiting The Bookworm.
For those unfamiliar with her story, Lee fled North Korea via China and Laos. She lived in hiding in China for a decade before going to Seoul, where she faced harassment and discrimination as a North Korean. Later, she helped her parents out of North Korea, guiding them through a 2,000-mile journey across China to freedom.
Lee’s stories have inspired millions of people worldwide, culminating in her newly published memoir The Girl with Seven Names, which is published in more than 20 countries. She has given testimony about North Korean human rights in front of a special panel of the UN Security Council, and has discussed issues with important leaders such as UN Ambassador Samantha Powers.
Like her Saturday talk, Lee’s encore will be moderated by USA Today reporter Calum MacLeod. For more information, see this event page, and check out her TED Talk below, viewed more than 5 million times worldwide.
