Bookworm 10 Anniversary Week: Whisky Tasting

Bookworm 10 Whisky Tasting

A good bottle of whisky should never linger half-empty. We’re opening up our ample whisky collection for a special night of tasting on Friday, September 25 at 7 pm as part of Bookworm 10 Anniversary Week. In short: buy two glasses of any whisky from the following list, and get a glass for free!

(A couple of conditions: each of the three whiskies must be different; the free whisky will be the cheapest of the three.)

All the whiskies below are Scotch single malts, with the exception of Greenore (single grain Irish whiskey) and Sheep Dip (a blended whisky made from 16 malts aged 8 to 21 years). Feel free to mix and match between the tiers.

Reservation is required by emailing [email protected]; in your email, please include your whisky selections, since quantities are limited for all of these — some only have one pour left. For more whisky options, please check out our Whisky Wednesday tasting selection.

Selections must be made at least a day in advance (by Thursday, September 24).

Tier 3

Mackillop’s Choice (Bruichladdich 1992) (80 RMB)

MacKillop's Choice v2

Mackillop’s Choice is an independent bottler no longer in operation. Once this bottle of Bruichladdich 1992 goes, we’ll never get another. We have bottle No. 94.

Benromach Organic (95 RMB)

Benromach Organic v2

The first Soil Association certified Organic single malt. Woody, oily, toasty, with toffee sweetness.

Longrow 14 (120 RMB)

Longrow 14

Cereals, barley, smoke — not as explosive and unsettled as the 10-year Longrow, but as complex and exciting.

Old Pulteney 17 (145 RMB)

Old Pulteney 17 v2

A double gold winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Smooth, strong, a profusion of fruit, some whirling smoke, and a sublime, oaky, chewy finish. A treat.

Balblair 89 (170 RMB)

Balblair 89 v2

Brought over to The Bookworm from Scotland via suitcase many years back, there’s only a little bit left from this vintage that won a Gold Medal and “best in class” at the 2007 International Wine & Spirits Competition. Ian Buxton featured it in his 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die.

The Bookworm 10 Whisky Tasting is on Friday, September 25 at 7 pm. Please reserve at least one day via email: [email protected]
