Back-to-back events this Sunday: Buy 1, get 2nd half-price

We’re hosting a doubleheader this Sunday at The Bookworm: at 6 pm, the Pathlight crew will be here to talk about the translation and magazine-production process in China. At 8 pm, author/composer Jindong Cai will give a special book talk on Ludwig van Beethoven, which the Chinese public enthusiastically embraced in the early 20th century. Film Friday Cancelled Tonight. Movie Monday: Paper Airplane

Film Friday is temporarily suspended — no film this Friday or next week — but Movie Monday is still on. Our Chinese Documentary Film Series concludes this Monday, August 31 with Zhao Liang’s Paper Airplane, a candid look at Beijing’s disenfranchised youth, including a group of heroin addicts who waste their lives and talent. Wang Zhezhu, winner of the inaugural China Bookworm Literary Award

BEIJING – The China Bookworm Press is delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural China Bookworm Literary Award, with the first prize going to 34-year-old Guangzhou native Wang Zhezhu for her novel The Train That Came To Its End.

The runner-up is Li Ziyue with I Am in the Red Chamber, You Are on the Journey to the West, with third prize going to Lin Weipan’s When a Cloud Meets a Sheet of Paper. (more…)

The Bookworm, along with the rest of Sanlitun, will be closed for 24 hours beginning this Saturday at 3 pm. This means Chinese Humor Section and Sunday Story Time are cancelled. We will reopen on Sunday, 3 pm. Bookworm Comedy Night, headlined by Paul Ogata, will go ahead as scheduled.
